Brain Bots is First Wonder’s Build Level 2 journey: an Arduino learning system that moves from first uploads and simple inputs toward complete sensor–decision–output systems.
45 guided projects in three journeys
The current proofed curriculum contains 45 guided projects organised into three achievable journeys. Children can also follow an Essential Route of 20 highlighted missions for a shorter progression through the most important skills.
What children build toward
- Uploading, editing and explaining Arduino programs
- Buttons, light, motion, distance, water, temperature and humidity inputs
- LED, RGB, buzzer, display and servo outputs
- Thresholds, calibration, timing, counters, state and logic
- Games, interfaces and automated mechanisms
- Multi-sensor systems that prioritise information and respond intelligently
- A complete final invention that the child plans, tests and explains
Not just copy-and-paste coding
The journey teaches children to test sensors and outputs separately, inspect real readings, change one variable at a time and explain why code caused a system to respond. The goal is system thinking, not memorising code.
Safety and adult checks are part of the build
The guide calls out adult checks where appropriate. Power is disconnected before rewiring, only approved power methods are used, wet sensing stays physically separated from the Arduino, and moving servo parts are tested safely.

The free First Wonder Learning Lab is live with guided missions, quizzes, parent-managed learner profiles, progress tracking and completion certificates. Some learning journeys are in beta while kit checks and additional demonstration videos are completed. Follow the adult checks and safety guidance for each activity.
Delivery and support

Safety & supervision
Disconnect USB/power before moving wires. Use only approved kit power methods. Keep the Arduino and connections away from water. Stop if a part becomes hot, smells unusual, changes shape or repeatedly resets the board.
